Willie Rasean Raby, Victim identified: killed in Birmingham’s 75th homicide of 2025

Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Wednesday evening in northern Birmingham. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Willie Rasean Raby, a 32‑year‑old resident of Birmingham.

The shooting took place at approximately 6:46 p.m. in the 2300 block of 33rd Avenue North. Raby was transported by emergency responders to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m.

Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances of the shooting. Raby’s death marks Birmingham’s 75th homicide of 2025, underscoring ongoing concerns about violence in the city. Birmingham ended 2024 with 151 homicides, the highest number recorded since 1933. Across Jefferson County this year, there have been 107 homicides, including those within Birmingham.
